John W. Stout

Hello….my name is John Stout.

I am originally from Southern Illinois. I have been ‘doing’ art since childhood. I studied fine art my first year in college, until a well meaning counselor suggested that I pursue an education in another field, saving me from the terrible plight of ‘starving artist’. From that time forth my artwork has been largely self-taught. But the counselor was right …… my engineering abilities have taken me a long way.

I have studied with talented painters whenever and wherever the opportunities existed, however, most of my experience came from a thousand tries. I enjoy experimenting with all media, but small watercolor paintings are my favorite.

I have artwork displayed in many different countries, including US, Canada, West Germany, South Africa, and Colombia, S.A., Sweden, China, Ireland and Japan. We have been involved in shows, and collected ribbons, (non miniature), in Las Vegas, Columbus, OH, Dayton, OH, Alliance, OH, Lancaster, OH, Cleveland, OH, St. George, UT, and Gillette, WY.

Why ‘Hunter’ as my signature?

The first 9 years of my life my school records listed me as Johhny Hunter, that being the last name of my step-father. But he was killed in the war and never had a chance to adopt me. I missed him greatly. When I started selling my art work in later years I decided to use his name as tribute to him. Thus you will see ‘J. Hunter Stout’ or sometimes just ‘Hunter’

I appreciate that other people see and enjoy the same things that I see and enjoy in my creations. Thank you art collectors, who think with your heart.
