Colleen Reynolds
I seldom go anywhere without my sketchbook and pencil. I enjoy capturing the nuances of scenes and people I encounter. I work quickly and loosely in my sketches to capture the essence of my subjects, but often slow down
at the end of a painting when fine-tuning the details. I like to describe my style as “impressionistic realism.”
Although I also paint landscapes and botanicals, the human figure is my current subject of choice. I find it perpetually fascinating, always challenging, and ever nuanced. I enjoy painting people in the act of “doing something,” and therefore see my paintings and drawings as a collection of images that capture the joys and intrigue of living day to day. I hope viewers will recognize their own stories in the slice of life I capture with paint and pencil.
I have joined artist cooperatives and participated in numerous artist exhibitions, fairs and shows in Utah, Virginia, and Nevada. I just recently completed a Bachelors of Fine Art with the University of Utah adding to my previous MS in Education and BS in Mathematics. I have done artistic business through my company, CRB Endeavors, since 2002. Previously, I completed a 20-year U.S. Navy career and taught corporate, college and university courses. While the life paths may seem divergent, my interest in art has been a passion hovering below all along.
