Sue Martin

Sue Martin moved west from Washington, DC after a career in corporate communications. With children almost grown, and the flexibility of self-employment, ten years ago Sue returned to an old love – painting. Though she had much early experience and training as an oil painter, Sue wanted to try something different. She began studying watercolor, experimental water media, and acrylics with local artists and classes at Salt Lake Community College and University of Utah.

Sue usually works on a series of paintings in a given subject, often incorporating collage and layering of paint to achieve a rich texture and dimension. These series have produced an eclectic body of work that includes whimsical cats, still life with fruit and candy, tiny abstracts, Utah landscapes, and, most recently, “Legacy – Memories of Momma.” Sue also accepts commissions for whimsical pet portraits.

Sue’s work has been juried into statewide shows sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society and Utah Valley State College. She has won awards in shows at the Woodbury Gallery (UVSC) and the Murray City art competition. Her paintings are in many private collections throughout the U.S.
