Debra Marin is a longtime resident of the West. Ms. Marin has studied art both formally and informally, taking art classes, and in various workshop settings with well-known local landscape painters. Her degree in art is from Southern Utah University.
The artist has made hiking and exploring the mountains, canyon country and desert a priority. Knowledge of the land are prerequisites for her landscape work. "For me, the influence of nature is an inescapable fact of western life. The effect on my art comes not just from the landscape or the light, but also from the human experience of living in the desert and the mountains. Seeing beyond the harsh environment reveals glimpses of exquisite beauty."
Much of her artwork is painted on location in northern Utah. The plein air studies serve as inspiration for larger studio works; a few might be considered finished pieces. The artist enjoys a variety of subjects, including still life and figure, but the landscape is her first love. She paints primarily in pastels and oil at her studio in Ogden, Utah.
