J. Hardesty
I was born in the small community of Osawatomie, Kansas.    I am a classically trained singer, having started singing at a very early age; and finally received a BA in voice.  I have always been creative, whether musically, dramatically, visually, or verbally using writing.  For me, like filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille once stated “Creativity is a drug I cannot live without.”  Without creativity, depression trumps passion; with creativity, life arouses passion that trumps the everyday mundane.

In 2006, I survived two strokes and two heart attacks after which at the encouragement of my youngest son, I again took up my brushes and palette.  At first, it was a therapeutic exercise to escape depression.  Later, painting became an obsession – I have studied with several professional Utah artists as well as taken classes at the local community college.   I paint almost daily – when not painting, I am thinking about my next painting.

I have been labeled as a neo-Abstract Expressionist.  Abstract painting has become my passion.  It allows me to  express my love of color and texture – to paint with freedom – to discover my inner soul.  I am always excited as a painting evolves and reveals itself to me and through me.  My first attempts at painting were landscapes; and I continue to paint them as well.  Abstract painting, however, is my passion.
