My initial efforts at painting began with an art and illustration package on the computer, Corel Painter 10. Although Painter 10 is a challenging and extremely versatile artistic tool, after several months I decided to switch to more traditional methods using paint and canvas - to try the "real thing."
My first paintings were completed in January of 2008 using watercolor, pencil, pen and gouache. I now paint mostly with acrylic, but will continue with watercolor, water soluble oils, and soft pastels.
My personal artistic style tends toward a rough or approximate realism as I try to represent landscapes, settings and situations associated with places my family and I have lived and traveled.
Karyn, my wife, and I are retired and have helped raise our grandchildren since moving back to Utah in 1998. We were both teachers among other professional activities and were educational volunteers for over three years during the 2002 Winter Olympics. In that capacity we set up the children’s traveling Olympic and Paralympic art displays in communities throughout the State and helped lead school groups to events in all venues during the Games.
