Bessann Swanson

I graduated from the University of Delaware with a major in Home Economics and a minor in design. In fact I spent a semester at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. After graduating from Jefferson Medical College, completing a Family Practice Residency at the University of Utah, joining a medical practice, marrying and being a Mom, I finally came up for air. My husband, daughter and I were spending our recreation time in the wilds of Utah and it was the refreshment I needed. Maybe the overachiever in me needed to capture it in art, or maybe it was the meditation of painting that drew me, but I took up watercolor painting. It seems to balance my life and fill my soul. I couldn't ask for more.

Although I haven't pursued formal art education, I have had the opportunity to learn from artists locally and nationally through the workshops sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society.  Judy Morris, Brenda Swenson, Linda Kemp, Sterling Edwards, Carla O'Conner and my longtime teacher Marian Dunn have brought me farther than I thought myself capable.  My learning comes not only from others but from myself as well, and that keeps me returning to the easel and starting again.
